It is time for the people of the CNMI to take back our government-it's that simple and its common sense when you have been bamboozled, as we say in my culture. I have made many predictions about our economy and our government and, guess what, they have all come true. More recently I predicted the outcome of the election would yield a higher ratio of newly elected independents than incumbents and it happened. The CNMI had a good start but we now need to build some momentum to create real “synergy” to keep us going and growing-a force that our politicians seem to be totally ignorant about when it comes to politics. Synergy is the unseen force that allows two or more to achieve something that they are incapable of doing individually and we need leadership with the capacity to create synergy with the Federal government-not enemies. Our government is like a car going uphill and running out of gas to get us over the top. We will need federal help or be stranded figuratively. What we need now more than anything is real synergy coming from the people to push our government over the hump and to recapture control of our government that is clearly taking us nowhere fast. In fact we are starting to roll backwards down the hill and the motor is already dead-meaning our budget is going backwards after two years. Federalization was the wake-up call and it's time for people to answer the call. The people never established a collective stance on federalization and neither did our government and the Legislature has pretty much left it up to the Governor, which is obviously politics to place all the accountability on the Governor. There has never been a legitimate attempt by our government to find out just what the people wanted and marching orders have never been given directly to the government for laws and reforms directly from the people in the history of the CNMI. Well, that time is at hand! People are starting to come together as one to give our government the first set of marching orders. The numbers are growing in protest to the posture of our government with the federal government and federal officials. The recent attacks on Mr. Cohen and Mr. Benedetto sent a clear message to the federal government and the people that this administration is not going to work collaboratively with the federal government. Mr. Cohen and Mr. Benedetto are standing between this administration and $450 million for the CNMI. A saying that applies is “beggars can't be choosers” and we should be begging, given the state of the Commonwealth-not being confrontational and calling for the head of people who can help us the most! The kicker is, this money can help the people and the people won't easily forget that Governor Fitial is keeping it from helping us when we need it most by not cooperating with the Feds. He is making it hard on himself and making the same mistake that the Froilan Tenorio administration made and we all know what happened to him. We are up to our necks in debt and it is very clear we need help and common sense should tell everyone the only real help we are going to get is from the federal government. The governor is fighting two battles on two different fronts (the economy and federalization) and it is clear to me that he is losing badly on both fronts. He should realize the surge from this last election as a true signal that, if he doesn't do something quick, fast and in a hurry, it may cost him the 2009 election. I pray this will encourage the Governor to change and take us in a new direction.Ambrose M. BennettKagman, Saipan

OUR FALLEN HEROES
SAME THING WILL HAPPEN HERE - JUST CHANGE THE NUMBERS
JUST CHANGE THE NUMBERS TO CNMI NUMBERS AND
THE COHEN PLAN WILL HARM THE CNMI IN THE SAME WAY
CURRENT IMMIGRATION POLICIES WILL DAMAGE THE USA.
